What is Career Counselling?
Career counselling will help you to know and understand what you want in terms of work and career and educational decisions. Career counselling is important in terms of developing one’s identity and major goals in life. Further, a career counsellor will help you to talk about your thoughts, feelings, ideas and worries about your career and school choices/ decisions. Career counselling will give you more information about your skills, interests, and abilities to help you develop a plan to achieve future goals.
Career counselling helps you decide what type of career goals are right for you and what type of work environment suits you best. It can also be helpful to determine if you are happy in your past or current field of school/work. Sometimes a conflict arises with what your culture and your family wants for you. Thus, it is important to explore your own career goals and to see what resources are available to you. A career or psychovocational assessment can assist in exploring personality characteristics, interests, and aptitudes to determine a great fit.
Your first session involves initial assessment of your well being and a thorough intake of your personal history and background. Subsequent therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length, and are unique to each individual treatment plan.
