What to expect at your first visit with a Registered Osteopath in Etobicoke:
Before coming to our space, there will be a brief intake process. We will ask you to share your health history, daily lifestyle habits, and the reason for your visit. This is your chance to explain what’s going on in your body and what you hope to achieve. The intake form may include questions about: previous injuries or surgeries, medications or ongoing treatments, daily activities, such as work posture or exercise habits. In addition, you will be asked about specific symptoms you’ve been experiencing.
During your first appointment in our space, we will go over the intake form you have completed, clarify any concerns you have, and set treatment goals together. Next, we will perform a physical assessment. In addition to examining the area of pain and discomfort, your Registered Osteopath will look at your posture, movement, and overall body mechanics. This could include asking you to walk, bend, stretch, or to rotate your joints. This evaluation gives your practitioner a clear picture of how your body is functioning as a whole.
Once your osteopath understands your condition, it is our goal to help you receive your first treatment. During this session, your osteopath may use:
- Manual adjustments
- Stretching exercises
- Gentle pressure to release tension
After the initial session, your osteopath will outline a treatment plan. We believe in a collaborative approach: your therapist will develop a treatment plan with you to ensure it is specific and helpful to your needs. This may include several weeks of treatments, as well as at-home stretches, posture adjustments, and lifestyle changes to contribute to your progress.
The treatment plan can be changed at any time, and will be reassessed as needed. This involves setting goals for treatment, talking about results, and providing information about more care options to support your wellness.
