We all hold goals and aspirations of the kind of lives we want for ourselves and our loved ones. It can be challenging when things get in the way of the future we hope for, and it makes sense to want things to be different.
As a psychotherapist working with children and families, I take a collaborative, client-centered approach to discover what change looks like for you. I recognize that you, your child and your family walk into our therapeutic space with a wealth of experiences, and that these experiences shape how you have come to understand yourself.
I also recognize that it might feel scary and foreign to be open and vulnerable with a new person. It is an incredible privilege for me to be able to sit with your story and in doing so, I prioritize creating a space of safety, and providing opportunities for clients of all ages to feel empowered within the therapy room.
My interests in working with children and adolescents are born out of years in early childhood settings. I have been privileged to witness the incredible resilience, creativity, and adaptability that often exists within these young people. I believe that all people hold strengths, talents, and uniquenesses, but in the face of life’s challenges, it may be difficult to see these things. I view my role as being able to help clients uncover these strengths as tools for when things are tough. I believe change is facilitated by interconnectedness, particularly for children and youth. As such, I consider family and peer relationships as integral components of the healing journey. As a systemically trained therapist, and a first-generation immigrant myself, I invite conversations around culture, religion, education, and broader societal influences if it feels helpful to our work together.
Above all else, I want to meet and work with you in a way that works for you. My work is grounded in narrative, solution-focused and cognitive-behavioural approaches to therapy, but I recognize that sitting and talking alone doesn’t work for everyone. Whether you need to move around for the duration of the session, draw together while we speak, or have moments to simply sit in the silence, my hope is that we create a space together where you feel comfortable to show up as your authentic self.
I received my Master’s degree in Psychotherapy within the Relational and Psychotherapy Training Program at the University of Guelph. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. My prior experiences include work in the non-profit early childhood and family support services sector, as well as within psychological research.
